Abstract

Background: The expression of Ki67 is strongly associated with tumor cell proliferation and growth. There is a correlation between Ki67 index and patient survival.
purpose. : Evaluate the value of ki-67 as a prognostic factor in relation to disease free survival, overall survival, and other clinico-pathological factors in patients with early-stage breast cancer.
Methods: This retrospective study was carried out on 155 female patients with early-stage breast cancer, clinic-pathological data and prognostic information of patients were collected, and the optimal cutoff point of Ki-67 was determined by univariate and multivariate survival risk analysis. The cut-off point was used to group the patients, and the differences in the clinic-pathological features and the prognosis were analyzed between the two groups.

Results: Ki-67 and tumour size were independent influencing factors of recurrence. Patients were divided into two groups according to KI-67 index (61.2%) of patients with KI-67 <0x7E> 35% and (38.8%) with KI-67 <0x3C> 35%. There was a significant correlation between the overall survival period and the KI-67. But there was no significant correlation between the disease-free survival period and the KI-67. There was a significant correlation between disease-free survival, tumour grade, and size. Disease free survival was significantly lower in cases with grade III compared to cases with grade I/II.
Conclusions: There was a significant correlation between Ki-67 and overall survival; also, there is a significant correlation between disease-free survival, tumour size, and grade
