Abstract

Background: Pre-eclampsia complicates about 3% of pregnancies, and it’s considered the second common cause of maternal mortality in Egypt.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to validate fullPIERS calculator in prediction of the adverse maternal outcomes in preeclampsia.
Patients and Methods: This prospective hospital-based observational study was conducted during the period from 1st June 2022 to 30th May 2023 and included a total of 81 patients who were diagnosed with Pre-eclampsia. All subjects were selected from the attendants of Emergency room and outpatient clinic of obstetrics and gynecology department of Aswan university hospital to validate fullPIERS calculator in prediction of the adverse maternal outcomes in pre-eclampsia. The study design was approved by the Aswan Faculty of Medicine's Ethics Committee.
Results: FULLPIERS calculator can be used to predict patients with maternal adverse effect at a cutoff level of > 1.9, with 72.7% sensitivity, 71.2% specificity, 48.5% PPV and 87.4% NPV (AUC = 0.76 & p-value < 0.001).
Conclusion: The fullPIERS model can help in prediction of adverse maternal outcomes in preeclamptic women. It is quick to use, economically viable, and anticipates the likelihood of an adverse out-come.
